Bhang vs. Ganja: Differences, Effects, and Health Impacts

Bhang and Ganja, both derived from the Cannabis plant, are popular intoxicants in India. Bhang is typically used in drinks during festivals and is tolerated to some extent in various regions, while Ganja is a potent form of cannabis for smoking, known by several names including marijuana. The key differences lie in their preparation and consumption. Bhang primarily uses hemp leaves, while Ganja incorporates flowers and resin, making it more addictive and potent. Legally, bhang consumption is more accepted, while Ganja can lead to criminal charges if the quantity exceeds certain limits. Both produce psychoactive effects due to CBD and THC content, impacting the nervous system. While cannabis has medical benefits, it also poses health risks, including mental health issues and respiratory problems. Addiction can be addressed with medical cannabis cigarettes, approved by the Ministry of Ayush in India.
